After the Battle of Gheluvelt, the 2nd Yorkshire battalion of 21 Brigade, 7th Division were relieved on 6th November and moved back to billets in Bailleul. On 8th November they moved to Ploegsteert where 21 Brigade was in support of 11 Brigade of 4th Division. Over the next week 2nd Yorkshire were constantly on the move from billets to billets in places such as Bac St Maur, Armentières, Sailly-sur-la-Lys before moving to Fleurbaix on 18th November, the day on which John Jones was killed. The battalion diary makes no mention of any casualties but the likelihood was that he was a victim of shell fire.
